SPECIAL EVENT: One Earth, One Sky, One Home: Connecting Ancestral Knowledge to Future Generations.

More Details:
From the islands of the Rapa Nui people to the vast Great Plains of the Blackfoot and the semi-arid savanna of the Juǀʼhoansi in Namibia, this gathering brings together reflections and experiences from diverse ecosystems around the world. It explores how the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples can be effectively applied in the face of today’s challenges.

This event aims to raise awareness about the challenges Indigenous communities face, including cultural preservation, intergenerational transmission, collective rights, environmental sustainability, and peace. Together, participants will collectively build a strong statement emphasizing the importance of acknowledging, respecting, and honoring the roots, cultures, traditions, spirituality, and rights of Indigenous Peoples, fostering global harmony and understanding.

This exchange is especially relevant due to its collective, multi-regional, and global nature. It aligns closely with the theme of the UNPFII 24th session, "Implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples within United Nations Member States and the United Nations system, including identifying good practices and addressing challenges." By bringing together diverse Indigenous perspectives from around the world, the event provides a unique space to share experiences, highlight successful initiatives, and discuss the challenges of putting the Declaration into practice at local, national, and international levels.

Interpretation provided in English and Spanish.

Light refreshments will be served.
